Electric Car in-wheel motor Siemens eCorner

erdinand Porsche put wheel motors on a battery electric car in 1897. They built about 300 of them and there were 4WD & FWD versions. He also made a hybrid version.

Amazing that 112 years later Wheel motors still aren’t in mass production.

Only about 15% of the energy from the fuel you put in your tank gets used to move your car down the road or run useful accessories, such as air conditioning. The rest of the energy is lost to engine and driveline inefficiencies and idling. Therefore, the potential to improve fuel efficiency with advanced technologies is enormous. With an Electric Car it costs just $1.00 per 100kms with MUCH more performance than with petrol at $20.00 per 100kms.

The Japs have developed a battery car which can accelerate faster than a Porsche. The problem? Producing affordable lithium batteries to power it.

I'm sure the camel jockeys will pay huge sums to battery companies in return for never developing an affordable battery.

lithium batteries are coming on apace, and are very light. I have a screwdriver set with a lithium powered battery – it weighs nowt and only cost a few £. the electric commuter bikes now have lithium ion batteries too :)
