Poem - After Sally

It isn't death that pains me. That's just moving house
Though I thank Kwannon for the gift of pain killers.

It's the fact that life, the world,
The familiar and the unknown
Are so startling, unique and improbable
So brutally gentle
Mundanely, repetitively poignant

Yet many people hurtle towards death
So busy fleeing their own shadow
Chasing their own tail

Freely and independently focussing on today's news
Parroting the media's current theme
That they'll never notice

Yet Sally did.
