Excellent video on consciousness, and the 2 sides of our brain:
Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke.
As it happened — as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding — she studied and remembered every moment.
This is a powerful story about how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another. It’s also about our minds, and there is no reason to believe/assume that the biochemistry of the brain is a complete understanding of such mystical experience.
Speaking as a scientist (she is, and I was) there is more to life than thinking, analysis, the material world and academia. Institutions like TedTalks help to broaden our education and (often largely unconscious) internal model of the world we live in.
