Labour saving gizmos - and alienation, the reformed vampire reminisces

Labour saving gizmos - and alienation Yesterday, I was pondering events that I’ve seen, as 360 year old reformed vampires are inclined to do – there have been lots of changes over so many decades and maybe two dozen countries, as you can no doubt imagine. One thing that struck me has stayed in my mind: I sometimes curse the list of things that need doing every day when I look around my

Making time for wholeness

A disregarded priority in modern life is making time for (apparently) not doing anything. Of course it isn't really doing nothing, when we prioritise Being. What happens when we don't? Eating by habit rather than becoming really conscious of what we feel like; what we value; what we promise ourselves to appreciate but somehow keep forgetting. Putting off an activity we love 'for another day'.

investing in life

I am sometimes offered the occasional hour of paid work, mowing someone's lawn, or similar, but I have no interest in extra money. I now receive the state pension, but for many years lived on a budget that was barely 40% of this, while working on my house. I have never seen extra money make anyone happy, except young parents faced with the impossibility of buying or building their own home.

When new cars TV holidays leave you empty

When Albert first renovated an old car - when he was still in his teens - he felt an immense sense of freedom. Even then insurance was a ripoff, so he only used it for late summer - July through September. The only experience that matched it for liberty was later, when he lived "off grid", as it were, in a caravan - no rent, no services, close to nature. Slowly, some would say inexorably, the

Where inspiration comes from, and how to destroy it

It is amazing how much clearer the world looks from the top of a hill (or a castle), and it strikes me that both locations are symbolic for that reason. I was particularly thinking of WALKING up a hill, but just walking has the desired effect, provided it is far enough from the madding crowd ... Trying to solve a problem whilst walking seems a bad idea for me - I'm likely to trip over my own

easy steps to freedom

Why do they look angry when they get in their £23,000, black, 4 wheel drive, aggressive Shopping Trolley? examples: Because they have been taken over by advertising. diets don't work - bar one

Painless diet that works It is sad to see people stressing themselves with arduous diet plans for years (decades) and seeing no permanent change for the better. I don't have the funds for 'research' but several observations clearly mean something. Overeating often implies comfort eating or boredom. Very often the two go together. I have seen many people lose several stone and achieve their

The Tibestian Book of the Undead
