Motivation and understanding on the learning curve

A fascinating video about how we learn, how we can learn more productively, and reasons why we may feel inclined to give up during the first 3 days. We have everything to gain from understanding this. It's not the complete story. It is also very helpful to cast many sentences into one (or several) images. Images are the royal road to grasping the whole story. learning / creativity upgrade

taking for granted - a miracle / paradise

The World is a miracle 🎇, yet we take it for granted, says the commentary in "The Hermetica", page 28. Hermes:  How many crafts have been employed, and how many works of art created to form one human being? Statues or portraits don't just happen without a sculptor or painter.  🎨🖼️🖌️ Has such a sublime work no creator? @pjforguk - pjf.org.uk If we are mindful, it is clear that

Phil Collins - Another Day In Paradise

A particularly meaningful song, and very relevant as the obscenely rich do their best to dismantle society in both the UK and USA. Who would have thought that the 21st century would see record-breaking attempts, by "government", at multiplying homelessness, poverty and foodbanks. She calls out to the man on the street 'Sir, can you help me? It's cold and I've nowhere to sleep, Is

Wildlife Wonders - rescue of baby elephant

The parent elephants salute the human rescuers! In Kerala, India, a baby elephant falls into a ditch (or an abandoned well) and gets trapped there. As the family of wild elephants watches and waits on the other side of the river, local people and forest officials use an earthmover to help the baby get out. Watch when they come running and welcoming the baby, checking whether it is fine.

How Art Therapy Helps Children With Mental Health and Communication Issues

For a child with limited language skills, opening up about their feelings can be almost impossible. That’s where art therapy comes in. It uses activities, such as painting, to help children understand and discuss thoughts they may find distressing. Mary-Rose Brady, director of operations at the British Association of Art Therapists explains:

Multitasking is a disease of 21 st Century

And it doesn't work: Typical results of multitasking: The video makers description of the problem: People don't just cook anymore -- they're cooking, texting, talking on the phone, watching YouTube and uploading photos of the awesome meal they just made. Designer Paolo Cardini questions the efficiency of our multitasking world and makes the case for -- gasp -- "monotasking."

healthy diet and poverty

Unplugged from food corporations I've heard some alarming tales from friends who work with people trapped in poverty and debt. The worst cases, due to the tax and benefits nightmare orchestrated by successive governments, are all people working full-time. Usually, they are working so many hours that they find it difficult to make the best decisions about what to eat. Understandably, when

Soprano Joyce DiDonato - War and Peace project

The lyric coloratura mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato is especially well known for her performances of Handel and Mozart. I was 'educated' about Joyce this past week (21st November) by an excellent program on Radio 3 hosted by Sean Rafferty. The good news is ... the program is still available on catch-up for a month. The program features live interview with Joyce DiDonato, and 3 recordings

How immigrant voices make democracy stronger

In politics, representation matters — and that's why we should elect leaders who reflect their country's diversity and embrace its multicultural tapestry, says Sayu Bhojwani. Through her own story of becoming an American citizen, the immigration scholar reveals how her love and dedication to her country turned into a driving force for political change "We have fought to be here," she

Schools Kill Creativity - the remedy ...

Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity. e.g. World Class ballerina (incapable of thinking without moving) was nearly labelled 'problem student'. She was one of the very few lucky ones that met a education 'professional' that was awake. Related: books, creativity, documentary,
